A new CBS/New York Times poll finds that
the margin between Democratic and Republican presidential candidates is
narrowing in Iowa, where nominating caucuses are scheduled for January
3.
According to the new
CBS/New York Times poll, Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton's lead
over other Democratic candidates is shrinking, with Clinton garnering
25 percent of the vote, compared to 23 percent for John Edwards and 22
percent for Barack Obama. New Mexico governor Bill Richardson continues
to trail behind the other candidates, receiving 12 percent of the vote
among likely Iowa caucus-goers.
Things
are stirring up on the Republican side as well. Although, former
Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has maintained a solid grip on the
lead in Iowa, recent polls like the CBS/NY Times survey, show Mike
Huckabee gaining significant ground among GOP hopefuls.
According
to the poll results, with 21 percent of the vote, the surging Huckabee
has managed to come within 6 percentage points of GOP Iowa frontrunner
Mitt Romney, who collected 27 percent of the vote in the latest poll.
Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani came in third at 15 percent,
followed by Fred Thompson and John McCain who both captured 9 percent
support among likely voters.
